Is bleaching bad for my teeth?
Bleaching only brightens your tooth. This is done by using a safe peroxide that lightens the natural yellows and browns in your teeth. It is held on the tooth by using custom or prefabricated trays. Bleaching may cause some sensitivity, but this is only temporary and can be treated with desensitizers and/or fluoride.
What are my options?
In office bleaching - This is the quickest and easiest way to get your teeth white. Many have heard of "Zoom" bleaching which requires a special light. Current research has shown this special light to have no effect on the bleaching process. Today's bleaching agents have their own chemical initiators that require no light. Dr. Cash uses Opalescence Xtra Boost, chemically activated high concentration peroxide, which will brighten your teeth in about an hour.
Custom trays -- Impressions are taken of your mouth and plastic custom trays are made. You will place the bleach in the trays and wear them at home. Additional bleach may be ordered as needed. We use Opalescence bleaching products by Ultradent.
Prefabricated strips/trays -- You may have heard of Crest Whitestrips. Dr. Cash carries professional strength Whitestrips. It will take 4 boxes of store bought strips to equal 1 box of professional strips. You will get faster results and spend less money.
We also carry Tres White by Ultradent. These are similar to Whitestrips, but some patients find them more user friendly.
